About the Artist
Luk Perceval began working in the theatre in 1979 as an actor at the National Theatre in Antwerp, which he left five years later to found the group Blauwe Maandag Compagnie. Here he began directing, taking over the artistic direction of the group from 1991 to 2005. “Schlachten!,” based on eight Shakespeare historical tragedies, premiered in 1999 at the Salzburg Festspiele and was invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen the following year. From 2005 to 2008 Luk Perceval was resident director at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz in Berlin, and since the 2009/2010 season he has been the main director at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg. His numerous stagings of opera and theatre have been shown at international festivals and have won many awards. In 2018-2022, he was “artist in residence” at the NTGent in Belgium. We will show a production video of Dream of Autumn, part of Jon Fosse’s Trilogien for which Perceval received the “Heddaprisen” in Oslo in 2020. In 2021 he received the Konrad Swinarski Award in Poland as best director for staging 3STRS. One of his trademarks is his staging of classics with a very novel and contemporary dramaturgy. Apart from his work as a theatre and opera director, Perceval makes documentary films. As a yoga teacher, he integrates yoga and meditation techniques into his work. Perceval founded the Naked Theatre in March 2023 with 12 international theater makers to offer an open forum for artistic and practical working methods. The Naked Theatre is an international collaboration of performing artists (dancers, choreographers, actors, dramaturgs, directors) exploring new forms and new ways of creating theatre.
