We are sad to announce the passing of Dr. Bede Eke on April 21, 2025. He is survived by his wife and three children.
Dr. Eke was an Associate Lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ who taught on a part-time basis while also employed with the Government of Alberta in ministries such as Seniors, Community and Social Services; Health; and Mental Health and Addiction. In a recent role with the Ministry of Immigration and Multiculturalism, Dr. Eke worked on anti-racism legislation for the province.
Dr. Eke held a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and Education from the University of Nigeria, and two Master degrees in Gerontology and Political Science from Miami University, USA. Dr. Eke graduated with his PhD from Miami University in 2007, then relocated to Canada. Since 2009, Dr. Eke taught more than 30 courses (and more than 3500 students) at the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ across a wide variety of topics including aging, work, death and dying, and family. He was also an instructor at MacEwan University, Concordia University, The King’s University College and Norquest College in Edmonton.
