Peer Review of Teaching

Elevating Teaching to Enrich Student Learning
The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), in collaboration with the Colleges, has launched the peer review of teaching initiative at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ. Peer review is a cornerstone of academic integrity and exceptional teaching, ensuring quality, credibility, and innovation in both research and education. When applied to teaching, it builds collegial trust, fosters reflection, and highlights the intellectual effort, thoughtful design, and care that instructors bring to their classrooms (Chism, 2007; Courneya, Pratt, & Collins, 2008).
This initiative takes a multifaceted, evidence-informed view of teaching effectiveness by integrating peer perspectives, student feedback, and self-reflection. Together, these complementary lenses create a fuller picture of the intellectual effort, thoughtful design, and inclusive practices that shape meaningful learning experiences.
Student Perspectives of Teaching (SPOT) and other student feedback offer valuable insights into the learning experience. Self-reflection deepens instructors’ awareness of their own teaching practices. Peer review adds a vital collegial dimension, encouraging constructive dialogue, shared learning, and continuous improvement across the university community.
